I believe that any happy existence should be filled with Purpose, Security, and Hope. These are the three pillars of Self-Wealth—a concept I write about extensively on my website and in my book. While Purpose and Security are certainly important, today I want to talk about the third pillar: Hope.
We’re living in strange times. With the corona virus choking out most other news stories, we are bombarded with images of bare shelves in grocery stores, people wearing medical masks, and graphs that depict the virus’s spread. The media always loves bad news, and they are having a field day with the corona virus.
I won’t downplay the seriousness of this event—it’s a scary thing, especially for those who are older or have a compromised immune system. However, I’m confident we will get past it, just as we’ve pulled together and moved through other tough times in our nation’s (and world’s) history.
Fortunately, our nation is responding to the pandemic, and many schools, restaurants, sports arenas, and other public spaces are playing it safe and temporarily shuttering their doors. Additionally, our nation’s scientists are hard at work on a vaccine, and are already starting clinical trials.
While we’re all playing it safe and keeping ourselves out of too many public spaces, let’s all take a deep breath and try to make the best of our situation. Stay in and play board games with your family. Learn how to make a few new recipes. Do house repairs that you’ve been meaning to get to. Learn a new skill or pick up an at-home hobby.
We’re all in this together, and we can persevere!
And that’s the main message I’m delivering to you today: one of hope. Yes, practice good hygiene and be cautious, but don’t let this virus control your life. Keep your thoughts turned to the future–to the days when things will return to normal. Keep calm, breathe, and focus on the little things in life that give you joy.
